The Bahiyara School
Sone River, Bihar, India
On the banks of the Sone River in rural Bihar, students walk to school from thatched huts. Before our school was built, there was neither running water nor electricity in the village—and no access to education.
Today, over 160 students are enrolled. More than half attend tuition-free, and no family pays more than 1,000 rupees per month (about $14 USD). Construction and teacher salaries are entirely funded by donations.
This is what happens when barriers to education are removed.
